What is the Quran?
In this life, we do not even open a fridge or go to the restroom without purpose. How can it be that we are in this world without any purpose?
There are two days that are very important in our lives:
Our purpose is to find our way back to jannah (Paradise) from which our parents - Adam AS and Hawwa RA were sent away. The verses of the Quran are called - ayaat (or miraculous signs). Just like we follow the road signs to walk or travel and reach our destination, Quran guides us to go back, helps us find our way to the Paradise that we lost.
Allah ﷻ clearly illustrates in the Quran the purpose of our life and our strives. Allah ﷻ says in Surah Adh-Dhariyaat 51:56,
God is the Most Merciful and it is His mercy that He sent down guidance through His Messengers. Quran is a sign of the greatest mercy of God for mankind. It is the supreme word of Allah, brought by the head of angels - Gibreel AS, to the head of prophets - Sayyidina Muhammad RasoolAllah ﷺ, in the head of nights - laylatul Qadr, the head of months - Ramadan and in the head of the cities - Mecca. When we engage with the Quran, it is the time to internalize the honor and opportunity that we have been blessed with.
Just like we need for and water for physical nourishment, we need the Quran for our spiritual nourishment. The Quran is full of unlimited blessings, but it is not just a book of blessings. Allah ﷻ says in Surah Yunus 10:57-58,
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِّمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers.
Say, "In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate."
Here Allah ﷻ told us several things about the Quran,
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Mu’minun 23:115,
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا
لَا تُرْجَعُونَ
Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that
to Us you would not be returned?"

- This book is a miracle: This book is going to become our life. It is going to become our book of deeds. It will become dearest to us. It will transform us, and it will soften our hearts.
- This book is from our Rabb: Whose word is this! This book is the word of the Creator of the earth, the moon, the sun, the stars, the sky – the Rabb over everything. To be able to connect and come towards the word of such a God, is the biggest happiness of this world.
- It is healing of the heart: Quran digs deep inside our hearts and heals diseases.
- It is guidance for us: We need to study and implement its guidance in our lives. This Quran becomes a roadmap for us. It will teach us to become a good wife, a good mother, a good daughter, a good sister, a good friend, a good neighbor, a good colleague, a good human, etc.
- It is a source of mercy and rahmat
- It is more beautiful than anything that we can collect
- It gives good news and it gives warnings
